OMG I played this in high school! First chair thank you very much, however, there were only two of us losers playing. We never learned how, and the reeds were like 17 bucks, so we would steal them and sell them for half :)

Actually, the oboe is the one that sounds like a dying duck. Bassoons are cool, but they are crazy expensive! I would love to play one if I could actually could afford it...

um I play oboe and saying that I sound like a "dying duck" actually offends me because we sound way better than many other instruments so.... please stop :)

Please don't diss the bassoon. Us players are smart, talented, carry reed knives, and are strong (we have to carry the heavy case FOREVER). And while the bassoon DOES sound constipated on the high notes, it is nowhere near the screech of the oboes. No matter how well you play that thing, everything comes out as a squeak (yes, even with the best of reeds).
