Mahler Hammer
The name given to the instrument in Mahler's Sixth Symphony described by Mahler as meant to be "brief and mighty, but dull in resonance and with a non-metallic character (like the fall of an axe)" ... basically a big wooden hammer hit against a big wooden platform.
