"Fixin' to" always bothered me. I grew up in Missouri where grammar and "southern" speak were optional. My family fell on the proper side but many of my classmates did not. I can remember the first girl I heard use fixin' to. It was pre-facebook but I "unfriended her that instant. haha

I've always described "fixin to", as "going to with some procrastination". It's a lot shorter, but only used in certain southern states.
