ALSO, :):, if you're talking about baby terms, the egg is first because it's the first thing that comes out of the mother. For mother terms, the chicken was first because without the mother, the baby wouldn't exist. So, technically, depending on your view, both answers are correct.

Eggs existed thousands of years before chickens. Dinosaurs used them. I think that's the joke with the chicken and the egg.
